The Jungfrau Region is considered one of the most spectacular mountain areas in Switzerland. With its impressive peaks, traditional alpine villages and breathtaking scenery, the region attracts visitors from around the world throughout the entire year.

Located in the Bernese Oberland, the Jungfrau Region includes famous destinations such as Wengen, Grindelwald, Mürren and Lauterbrunnen. Towering above the valleys are the legendary mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, which have become symbols of the Swiss Alps.

A Paradise for Nature Lovers

The Jungfrau Region offers unforgettable scenery in every season. During summer, green alpine meadows, waterfalls and panoramic hiking trails dominate the landscape. In winter, the area transforms into a snow-covered paradise for skiers, snowboarders and winter hikers.

One of the biggest highlights is the dramatic Lauterbrunnen Valley, famous for its steep cliffs and waterfalls. The region is home to more than 70 waterfalls, including the impressive Trümmelbach Falls inside the mountain.

Visitors looking for fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings quickly understand why the Jungfrau Region is one of the most photographed places in Switzerland.

Hiking with Spectacular Views

The Jungfrau Region is internationally known for its hiking opportunities. Hundreds of kilometres of well-maintained trails connect mountain villages, alpine huts and scenic viewpoints.

Popular hiking routes include:

  • Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen

  • Mannlichen Panorama Trail

  • Eiger Trail

  • Schynige Platte hiking routes

  • Lauterbrunnen Valley walks

Along the trails, hikers enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers, snow-covered peaks and traditional Swiss alpine landscapes.

Cable cars and mountain railways allow visitors to easily reach higher elevations without difficult climbs, making the region suitable for both experienced hikers and families.

Winter Sports in the Swiss Alps

During winter, the Jungfrau Region becomes one of Switzerland’s leading ski destinations. Ski areas around Wengen, Grindelwald and Mürren offer slopes for all skill levels.

Modern lifts, reliable snow conditions and spectacular scenery make skiing here particularly memorable. The famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill race near Wengen is one of the best-known ski events in the world.

Besides skiing and snowboarding, visitors can also enjoy:

  • Winter hiking

  • Sledging

  • Snowshoe tours

  • Cross-country skiing

  • Ice skating

The peaceful alpine villages and cosy mountain restaurants create a classic Swiss winter atmosphere.

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

One of the most famous attractions in the region is the Jungfraujoch, often called the “Top of Europe”.

Accessible by railway, Jungfraujoch is home to Europe’s highest railway station at 3,454 metres above sea level. Visitors can enjoy panoramic glacier views, snow activities and impressive mountain scenery throughout the year.

The train journey itself is considered one of the most scenic railway experiences in the world.

Traditional Swiss Villages

What makes the Jungfrau Region especially attractive is the combination of spectacular nature and authentic Swiss mountain villages.

Places like Wengen and Mürren have preserved their traditional alpine character with wooden chalets, cosy hotels and quiet village streets. Wengen is completely car-free, adding to its peaceful atmosphere.

Visitors can enjoy local Swiss cuisine, mountain hospitality and stunning views directly from hotel terraces and balconies.
